Kenya stunned two-time African champions Egypt in the continental championship to book a place to the UOQT

African 3x3 basketball women's champions, Kenya, have a date with destiny this weekend as they look to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Under the tutelage of Evelyne Kedogo, the team, comprised of skipper Natalie Akinyi, Kenyan internationals Mercy WanyamaVictoria ReynoldsMadina Okot and Hilda Indasi, is in Japan for the FIBA 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2 (UOQT2) set to tip off at Utsunomia, Japan from 3 to 5 May.

The African champions open their campaign against Canada on Friday 3 May from 15:50 local time (9:50 am EAT) before taking on other pool B opponents, Australia, on Saturday 4 May at 3pm (9 am EAT ) and Netherlands at 6:30 pm ( 12:30 pm EAT).

"We had two weeks of very intense training in Miramas and had help from the coaches there. We picked a few lessons from them that will come in handy in Japan.

We are ready and the plan, as we face some of the best teams in the world, is to take it one game at a time and adjust as we go along. We are not here as pushovers but as competitors so we will leave everything on the floor," Kedogo told Mozzart Sport from Japan.

She continued, "We just have to believe in God and in our abilities to deliver and make a difference, history, in this competition."

Kedogo's charges face tough opposition with Canada who are favorites in the competition setting the tone for the rest of Kenya's run.

European heavyweights Netherlands boast the height and athleticism that make them formidable 3x3 teams, while Asia Cup champs Australia might look a little bit different but still loom as a legit contender with superstars Marena Whittle and Alex Wilson steering the ship.
